computer buyingPurchasing a computer in whatever purpose involves costly decisions. Below are the listings of helpful tips of what to look for when buying a computer.

System Tips - Make sure you are getting Windows XP or higher versions. Never settle for an old operating system. XP is a stable version as the Windows 2000 and is user friendly.  If your profession requires intensive quality video editing and graphic design, Windows 2000 must be preferred. The only drawback with Windows 2000 is that there are many compatibility problems with the external hardware and software such as the scanner, optical disk drives and others.  Just make sure that these peripherals works well when purchased.
Hard Drive Tips - It is one of the most important considerations when purchasing a computer because it is eventually the designated place for all of your files and information. Try looking for the maximum size hard drive because the space will run out as fast if it is of minimal size. It will be either replaced or you need to add another drive to your computer. This means another cost then.
Case Tips - Purchase a computer with a large case and minimal features like the sound and video for better upgradeability. A disadvantage of small cases is that it is difficult to add other peripherals such as drives later. Make sure also that the case supports the standard motherboard, if it will fit your desk or table and if the drives will always be accessible I any way you will position it.
Monitor Tips - High quality 19-monitor should be preferred. LCD flat screen is best recommended.
Memory Tips - It should have at least 256MB of RAM because this improves the performance of the computer. For power user, 512 RAM is needed for optimum functionality. The latest DR RAM is faster and a requisite for some Pentium machines. Also, determine if the type of memory can be upgraded in the future. More memory in the computer means more efficiency.
Modem Tips -With the widespread of broadband, modem has becoming important. Computer must be equipped of at least 56K modem, the greater the speed, the faster will the Internet demand for bandwidth.
Printer Tips - Low cost (below$70) and low end printers are not recommended because they are more prone to paper jamming problems. Unless you have a quality photo printing needs, inkjet printer is not recommended because it is very expensive. HP printers are then preferred because of the durability and wide availability of cartridges. Avoid purchasing “All in one” system just like the fax, copier, scanner because these types have many connectivity and other problems encountered
Sound Tips - Never settle with the free speakers provided with the most of the new PCs. Purchase a separate better speaker from around $29 to $49 for better sound quality. Most of the new computers have built in standard sound card. However, if you wanted to hear music of stereo quality, a separate more advanced sound card needs to be purchased to enjoy sound of high quality during games and other programs.
