Does it take a long time starting up your computer? Are you anxious of looking ways to speed up your computer when before, it just takes a minute to start up? Purchasing a new computer may not be the best idea.
The performance of the computer will degrade if it is not maintained properly. To counterbalance this slowing down of the computer, you have the responsibility yourself to fix the performance issues. Follow these steps to enhance the efficiency of your computer.
- Remove those harmful viruses and spywares. They are the primary cause of the slowing down of the computer. Update weekly and regularly run the antivirus software.
- Defragment your computer in regular basis. This process will place similar files and folders closer together and arrange it to the hard disk to further speed up loading process. If defragmenting for the first time, have it done after disk clean up. After the first disk clean up, defrag, and then perform another disk clean up.
- Perform disk clean up. Click run on Start menu. Enter the keyword”cleanmgr.exe” in the text box. Press OK and it will clean up unnecessary files in your computer.
- Remove unnecessary and unwanted software. Look for the control panel in the start menu. Single click the menu “add remove programs”. Select the old software and programs that are not needed and click the “remove” option.
- Delete not wanted Start-up programs. Run msconfig on start menu. Select the startup tab. Select by unchecking the unnecessary programs that you don’t want to run during start up. Be extra careful in disabling the services that you do not need or use. If you are in doubt of the application, do not disable them. Wrong disabling of services can lead to dangerous effects and unexpected problems that cannot be detected right away. Look for experts in the field to let them do the services for you.
- Hasten the processing time by turning off those fancy graphics included in the Windows XP software.
- Ensure that a firewall is turned on and in the right location. Most of the viruses and spyware can disable the firewall. Install only one firewall to avoid conflict. If you had found out that the firewall is not active, activate it by going to the Start Menu, click Control Panel and check if the Windows Firewall is green.
